Meaning of ley del silencio

ley del silencio: It is a tacit agreement between the members of a closed group of people (usually from the underworld), by which they agree not to betray each other. Agreement not to declare or denounce.; A "law of silence" is a mandate of closed organizations, fraternities, and especially mafia groups whereby any act that concerns them should not be mentioned outside their circle, particularly if it is a crime. See omertá .; LAW OF SILENCE unwritten rule which takes place within organizations and which consists of maintaining absolute secrecy, at the cost of life if necessary, of a crime or whatever has been committed by one or more members of that group. Failure to do so usually costs the life of the traitor, especially within the mafias.
